Howler Papers interim global content
under construction

(back to Howler Papers)

Preview of sample national content prior to launch with local content.

Newest material always added at top (updated March 11, 2020)

OUR VISION: Like USA Today in one respect – national content with some local content -- but of course MORE local content, generated by local editors. As to general (national) content, it will not be youth-oriented nor “click bait” in nature, but hopefully of a more
adult, substantive, nourishing nature.

Think somewhere between
The Sun Magazine and New Yorker, but not quite as "sophisticated" or specialized as either one! (That’s a goal, anyhow). Look at this very preliminary smattering of material, and see what you think! Perhaps we can work together!

THE BRILL BUILDING MOVIE - odd little film gets superlative response

Seven years in the making, songwriter/satirist Jim Terr's mockumentary about his own strange saga starts with his 2012 run for President, and circles around his connection with the legendary New York "hit factory," The Brill Building. Narrated by "anchor" Valerie Plame, with cameos from Tony Hillerman, former NM Gov. Bill Richardson, NPR's Scott Simon, humorist Dave Barry, journalist James Fallows and other celebrities. Also featuring Suhail Dabbach, the memorable "Man in Black" from 2010 Oscar Best Picture "The Hurt Locker."

A relatively dry and serious (and important) excerpt from the film,
on the serious subject of demagoguery.

A touching story from a friend

WILDEST book ever about the real Wild West – coming in audio book form soon!
The 'Wild West' stories of Dodge City, Deadwood, and Tombstone pale in comparison to the incredible story of Las Vegas, New Mexico, for decades considered the most violent community on America's western frontier.

You’re Awake – But You Can’t Move!
The fascinating explanation – coming soon on video.

It's the end of an English teacher's funeral and one of her
students stands and says to the teacher's son, "May I say a word?"
The teacher's son says, "Why, sure."
The student says, "Plethora."
The son says, "Thank you, that means a lot."

The Space Fuse Riddle
Heard this mentioned in an interview which I can’t find, but the gist is when you’re designing things for outer space, you have to re-think all your basic assumptions of how things work. A simple fuse was used as an example. Why would a fuse work differently – if at all – in space? (Answer at bottom)

Literature is “news that stays news.” - Ezra Pound

THREE CRITICAL CONCEPTS TO KNOW:

The Odds of That

Dunbar’s Number – and how big can a “community” be?
Malcolm Gladwell dealt with this in his book,
The Tipping Point.

Paredolia: Why you see the face of Jesus in a tortilla

Space fuse answer: Because when the metal strip in a fuse heats up and melts,
here on earth, it drops away because of gravity. No gravity in space!
